The best laid plans.....

Drumbrae Library Hub opened with a fanfare, a pipe band and a lot of back-slapping on Friday, 17th February 2012.  The Lord Provost, City Chief Executive, Leader of the Council, MSP and gaggle of assorted councillors and dignitaries were all in attendance.   The current administration were quick to tell us all that the building is on time and on budget and was delivered with and for the community.

It is indeed a wonderful building which will be a huge asset to our community. Having the West Neighbourhood Team in the area will be a benefit not only in bringing the workers closer to the people but in boosting sales at the local Scotmid store in the process.

The opening of the building and arrival of the Neighbourhood Team however, does not detract from the fact that these very same councillors opposed the building of the library when it was proposed as part of the Drumbrae Leisure Centre ten years ago and these same councillors closed and demolished the primary school just round the corner.

One of the Neighbourhood managers told me on Friday that they were very shocked and surprised by the number of very young children who are spending considerable lengths of time in the new library completely unsupervised by parents.  "We had no idea there was this level of "child neglect" in the area they said.  Well the staff at Drumbrae Primary School could have told them so.
